DEVELOPMENT TAKEAWAY

Validate care instructions for the complete product.

Set the intended procedure

Ask the material and component suppliers for compatible care information. Agree the proposed instructions and validation method with the buyer and laboratory where required. Cleaning and drying settings should be product-specific.

Establish a baseline

Record the sample identity, measurements, appearance and construction before testing. Include clear photos of quilting, openings, seams, labels and trims. State the condition in which the sample is measured.

Inspect after the defined process

Review dimensional changes, surface appearance, color transfer where relevant, seam pucker, insulation distribution, trim operation and damage. Functional claims may need their own re-testing after agreed preconditioning.

Close the loop

If the result fails the agreed criteria, trace the issue to components, construction and care compatibility. Make changes and validate the revised product before approving care labels and bulk. A material’s individual care sheet is a starting point for the assembled jacket.

Questions buyers ask

Can I apply a generic washing instruction to every down jacket?

No. Use instructions validated for the actual shell, fill, lining, trims and construction.

Should measurements be taken before care?

Yes. Use a defined baseline and consistent measuring conditions for a useful comparison.
