Three different water questions.

DEVELOPMENT TAKEAWAY

Match the claim, specimen and current test method.

Begin with the intended claim

State where and how the jacket will be worn and what the customer-facing words are intended to promise. “Water-repellent” is not a complete specification for rain exposure, and a visual beading demonstration is not a finished-garment waterproof test.

Match the test to the attribute

AATCC identifies spray repellency and hydrostatic pressure as different test methods. Check the current scope, specimen preparation and reporting requirements with the laboratory. Report method, result, conditions and any care preconditioning together.

Review the whole assembly

Water can interact with seams, closures, pockets and other openings. Material evidence should be kept within its scope. Where a garment-level claim is intended, agree the construction and appropriate verification plan before artwork and copy are approved.

Recheck after relevant care

Ask which performance requirements apply before and after the intended care process. Confirm the selected treatment and component compatibility with the supplier. Avoid turning a branded supplier’s care procedure into a universal instruction for every shell.

Questions buyers ask

Does water beading prove that the jacket is waterproof?

No. It shows a surface interaction under those conditions; penetration resistance and garment construction need their own evidence.

Is a fabric hydrostatic report enough for every claim?

No. Match the evidence to the intended wording and consider the complete garment.
